I kind of thought that making friends was hard, but...that's how it was for me, too. I met Nier, Weiss, and Kainé, and it wasn't long before we were all friends. It's hard to imagine being away from them for long.
[He'll have to learn to adapt to that.]
Maybe it's something like fate, that way.
I hope your friend shows up for you. Then you can tell him that you're even, now!
[Though he'd have to make sure to not spring Stilzchen on them. He was still suspicious of the creature at times, but...oof. Hard to think what Nier and Kainé might do if they also thought he was a Shade.]
Yeah! I look forward to it. This thing definitely helps with that. I've already been invited to join a book club. It sounds nice, to be able to do things like that, when we want... And to just be able to talk to others, when you're feeling lonely.
[Kaneki brightens quickly at the mention of the book club; apparently that's something he's familiar with.]
My friend Maka hosts that, if she's the one you talked to. I think she's considering hosting the next meeting at the bookstore I work at...which means I might get to meet you in person, soon.
[Well, he's...looking forward to this strange gathering even more, then. To be honest, he wasn't sure how much their tastes in books would line up with his, given his youth, and been pretty apprehensive.]
It wasn't her, but that's great! I also got a few tips on the kind of pokemon that would make traveling easier, so I hope I can make it.
I hope so, too. Even if you don't think you can make it on your own, Maka has a Pokemon that could Teleport you over without much difficulty. She did that for me for the first meeting we had.
[Mostly because he can't really...fly on anything yet.]
Mhmn! That's the kind of pokemon I'll be looking out for. It seems weird that Stilzchen can't do that -- Shades would materialize all the time from what seemed like thin air. It gave me a terrible headache...
Anyway, I'd feel kind of bad making someone I don't know do something like that. So even if I can't make it to the next one, there will always be more, right? I need time to find a good book, anyway.
Pokemon that can teleport are generally Psychic types. Sableye- like Stilzchen- are Dark types...though I know it's possible for Dark types to learn Psychic type moves as well.
[He's just not sure about Teleport- that might just be a strictly Psychic thing.]
Oh, I'm sure. The club just started recently, so we'll probably have a lot more meetings in the future when more people have joined.
So strange... Magic could do different things back home, but we never really gave it types.
[Emil makes a small, thoughtful noise and let's the rain take over the talking for a few moments.]
I don't...really know. [The talking kind, he thinks to himself and smiles. That wouldn't make much sense to Kaneki, though, and wasn't what the older meant.] In my library back home, it was mostly things like lab reports or meeting summaries from way back when. But I think... Something like a fairy tale, where everyone can live happily ever after. That's the kind of book I'd like...
[Emil's answer isn't too surprising. He seems like the type who would like a story like that, and it just gets Kaneki to smiling more. If there's one thing he really can talk about at length, it's literature.]
Fantasy is a very interesting genre. The possibilities of what you can do are endless, especially in the hands of a good author. I can promise you that there are a lot of books like those, here.
[Especially since the books here tend to lean on the more...family friendly side.]
Mhm. I think I like them because there's a level of suspense in those kinds of stories that you can't find in most...and if it's been written well, you really can't put the book down until you figure out what happens.
[He'll have to try one, he decides. As much as Kaneki said it could be hard to put down, if he found it to be too much, he didn't have to continue it at all!]
Though anything sounds fun compared to more reports, honestly. You'll have to send me a list of the ones you like! Um, if you want.

I guess I could, couldn't I?
Thank you, Emil-san. Maybe both of us will get to see our friends again, soon.
[He pauses for a moment after he says that before continuing.]
I hope you can make more friends here, too. That's one good thing about this place...somehow, it seems easier to do that, here.

My favorites are horror and mystery, myself.

[Did people back home even write books like that, anymore? He supposed it was possible... But it all seemed like a luxury they just couldn't afford.]
Really? I don't think I would have guessed that. [As surprised as he sounds, it isn't really in a negative way.] What do you like about them?

Is it still raining?

...It is. But that's okay, now. Just...made me more lonely, for a while.

[Though with Rikki, her growls tend to be less...friendly, most of the time.]
And I'm glad to hear that. Things should be better, once you reach Cherrygrove.
