Hello! I'm not around at the moment, but if you leave a message I'll get back to you!

[Beep!]
samsa: (Gesture □ I am uncomfortable)
[As the Gear's video flickers into life, the first thing of note is that, well...it's upside-down. Kaneki can be seen holding it, pursing his lips with his head tilted before he jerkily gets the Gear turned the right way. He can be seen standing in front of the Lighthouse in Olivine, his clothes looking a little oddly disheveled. He's wearing his hoodie despite the warm weather, one sleeve rolled up and the other pulled down. He's wearing...shorts too, for some odd reason, and there's a huge grin on his face as he glances back at the lighthouse, then back at the Gear.]

Heh heh heh...

[There's a sudden scuffling that prompts Kaneki to look up, shakily turning his Gear around so the video can capture his Gliscor dragging himself along the sand, flopping forward uselessly as if he's forgotten how the hell wings work. His claws dig into the ground as he glares up at Kaneki, his claws snapping as he tries to reach out and grab him by the ankle-]

Rikki! Keep him...away!

[He commands in an awkward, stilted voice. Even so, the Zangoose appears in frame a second later with her hackles raised and claws outstretched, swiping through the air at Louis to keep him from getting any closer. But her hackles are raised for more than one reason...Kaneki's acting weird, but it still smells and looks like Kaneki...

Kaneki turns the Gear back on himself with his smile still in-tact before reaching a hand up to pull down one eyelid, sticking his tongue out at the camera with a raspy cackle. He drops the Gear in the sand then, only his feet visible now as he runs toward the Lighthouse. God knows what he's going to do, but as he gets closer the Gear shudders again, a loud tapping sound ringing out as Louis' claw snatches against the Gear's plastic.]

Gliii! GlisCOR!!!

[Rikki hisses and shoves him away again, just in time to knock the Gear back into place to get a shot of Kaneki again just before the Gear is knocked over with the camera blocked by sand.

...it looked like he was going to try to climb the Lighthouse.]

[It's been something of A Week for Kaneki, and this morning just further complicated things.

Kaneki never thought he would ever make a post like this, and now he can't help but hate that he has to. So he makes a few contacts privately first before sending a brief message to the network.]

Chie Hori has gone home. Please let me know if you happened to get any of her Pokemon. I won't take them or anything, I just want to see if any of the others are still out there.

Thanks.

[It's probably best that he's in the middle of traveling for once, because he really doesn't feel up to seeing anyone else in person right now. But if being in this world has done anything for him, it's made him get better at talking about things like this.

So. There's that.]

samsa: (Defense □ haha hey woah hey)
[The video that starts here is a bit shaky at first as the broadcaster adjusts his grip on his Gear, taking his sweet time as if there’s something hindering his ability to move his arms properly. Once Kaneki can hold his Gear at arm’s length, the reason behind this is readily apparent.

There seems to be a Pokemon clinging to Kaneki’s shoulder, though it’s more attached to his back than anything, and then a second of the same species with her claws firmly dug into the front of his uniform. It looks like he’d been preparing to go to work when...something stopped him, clearly.

That something happens to be in the form of two Gligar who don’t seem like they plan on letting him go any time soon, and he’s now stuck between...well, a Gligar and a hard place, so to speak.]

Has...anyone else been seeing Gligar everywhere this morning?

[The last swarm Kaneki was directly influenced by was the sudden horde of Mareep that happened. Now, Pokemon that are supposed to live on cliffs and in mountainous areas are all over town, awkwardly perching in trees or nestled on rooftops. Basically any high place they can get to.

As Kaneki talks, the Gligar on his back reaches a claw up to lightly bap against the side of his head with a hissing snicker, causing him to recoil while the other Gligar tugs at his tie, jerking his head forward and nearly causing him to fumble and drop his Gear. All the while there’s a constant growling from off screen where Rikki has been glaring at the pair of Pokemon for the past several minutes, weighing her options and trying to decide if she should leap on one of their heads while they’re still attached to Kaneki.]

I tried offering them some food, but they don’t want to leave me alone...and I really have to get to work soon...they’re not native to this area, so I thought that maybe they’re confused about there they’re supposed to go.

[Meaning they’re using Kaneki as a convenient perch. Or maybe (the more likely problem) they’re just having too much fun messing with Kaneki and making a game out of seeing how long they can follow him around before he finally shoos them off. So far, he hasn’t been successful.

Kaneki sighs, the collar of his shirt coming open as front!Gligar manages to pull his tie apart.]

Okay, maybe I just need to- ah-! Hey!

[The Gear feed turns upward as shoulder!Gligar snatches it right out of his hands, peering curiously into the viewfinder as the camera turns to show the side of Kaneki’s head, and then Rikki and a Vaporeon standing in front of Kaneki, unsure this whole time as to how to help.

At least until the Vaporeon seems to get the idea that, hey, Gligar...is a ground type. And what do ground types not like?]

W-wait, Scylla, don’t-!

[The last thing the feed shows before cutting out is Scylla blasting water at the Gligar by Kaneki’s head, succeeding in getting it to let go of the Gear and Kaneki, but also soaking them all in the process.]
samsa: (Sleep □ kaneki in his natural habitat)
[Maka looks all shades of Done With This Shit when the feed turns on, though it also looks like she’s not holding the Gear as both of her hands are free and trying to prop up one (1) Kaneki Ken.]

Yeah, all right. Ken being drowsy isn’t that weird, I figured he was up all night reading or something. But then I look outside and there’s people passed out in the streets? [A pause, she pushes on him.] Hey, don’t drop it.

[“It” referring to a bowl he’s inexplicably holding. Holding with rather impressive determination considering he is also looking like he’s both barely awake and doesn’t care about a damn thing.]

So, okay, either this is some epidemic of laziness or everyone else stayed up late for some dumb reason.

[Now a paw reaches up into the camera’s view trying to dip into the bowl.]

Hide, that’s raw cake batter, don’t! --Flash, would you get rid of this?

[Kaneki starts glowing.]

Not Ken! The bowl!

[A grumble and the bowl vanishes from sight. Maka sighs.]

Okay. I think the message got across. Ken, let’s get you to bed.

[Kaneki lifts his head a little, mumbling something about how he’s ‘doing something and he can’t sleep yet’, all while he’s about to just pitch forward and fall asleep on the floor. Sleep is for the weak.

Maka’s response, of course, is to stand and lift Kaneki like a sack of potatoes and just walk out of frame. There’s a “Flash shut the Gear off!” before the feed ends.]

[OOC: This is a joint post between Maka ([personal profile] soundmind) and a (very sleepy) Kaneki, so you'll get responses from both!]

[There have no doubt been plenty of people broadcasting their displeasure at the appearance of these creatures that have shown up, and even more talking about strange changes that have suddenly begun to take over their bodies within the last day or so. With each passing hour, the affliction seems to have affected more and more trainers.

At this point, though, Kaneki isn't interested in complaining about the situation on the Network, so he instead has a different question to ask.]

How long do you think this will last?

[That's assuming, of course, if this will even wear off...]

[Action near the edge of the city]

[Staying indoors is a solution that can only last for so long when your body is rapidly changing beyond your control. It started slowly as all things like this seem to at first, beginning with his aching leg and traveling outward from there to the rest of his body. While it wasn't particularly painful any more than the cut had been, it was an ache that settled into his bones in a way that was a little too familiar for his liking.

It wasn't like he had a whole lot of time to think about what was happening, at any rate. His first reaction to the change was initially to contact someone, but that never made it past being just a thought. For some reason, talking to anyone while like this was too daunting to think about, so he didn't. By now, though, he's wondering if maybe that wasn't the best idea.

Kaneki eventually has to leave his hotel room and wander outside thanks to a myriad of tentacles that now protrude from his shoulders and back, making it difficult to avoid undue property damage from being indoors. Not to mention the thick, purple substance that occasionally drips off of them, only to hiss and sizzle wherever it lands. At least going outside closer to dusk and away from the town's center made it less likely that he'd be spotted...maybe. None of his Pokemon are out with him, either, all either in their balls or back in his room. His Gear was left behind as well, so anyone trying to reach him right now won't get a response.

But now that he's out here...he honestly doesn't know what to do. He's had a day or so to actually quietly panic about the situation in private as the changes really took shape, leaving him at a bit of a loss afterwards. He doesn't want to be alone, not really...but he hasn't even gotten to a mirror to see what he looks like. He can't imagine it's good, and just not knowing for sure has his hands (which are blessedly still intact, compared to some) shaking a little at his sides, particularly when he lifts one up to hesitantly run his fingertips along the hard substance that has grown from the crown of his head down over his forehead and the bridge of his nose. It doesn't help that the growth has made it significantly harder to see in any direction that isn't straight on or slightly to either side, meaning that he wouldn't even be able to see if someone decided to approach from behind.]
samsa: (Bashful □ hahaha whaaaat was that)
[The sound of rain hitting terra cotta tiles can be heard as the video starts up, revealing a wide shot of the front of Sprout Tower. Kaneki can be seen sitting in the dry grass beneath the overhang with his hair damp and wearing a blue jacket that's darkened along the shoulders, evidence that he just recently got caught in a downpour. There's a Ratatta on one of his shoulders, curled up as close as she can get to his face and shivering from her whiskers to her long tail wrapped like a loose scarf around his neck.

Also, there are sheep. How many sheep?

So many.

Mareep, to be exact, each one of them with their wooly bodies wet and causing them to shiver a little, too, all clustered near and around Kaneki beneath the overhang. His Bouffalant is lying in the grass a few feet away with his hooves beneath himself and even more Mareep huddled up against him, seeking the warmth of his massive bouffafro.]

I thought I would be able to make it back without getting caught in the rain, but...I guess I should have expected as much.

[Kaneki laughs a little, currently petting the head of a Mareep nestled between his knees. The little sheep bleets softly at the contact, bumping its nose into his hand.]

I feel bad for these little guys, all caught out in the rain like this. They, ah...don't seem to like it very much.

[That's said with a slight jerk as he pulls his hand back from the Mareep's wool, shaking his hand slightly when he feels his fingertips get a slight shock, like one might after rubbing their socks on carpet before touching somebody on the arm. All of the sheep are loaded with static, but with all of this water around...it's living dangerously having so many of them congregated under one roof, so to speak. But he can't bring himself to shoo them away, and it's raining too hard to leave just yet...]

Does anyone know just how long they might be around? It feels like every time I look there are more of them...and it doesn't look like this rain is going to stop any time soon.

[He's already lost count of how many he's seen today alone, not to mention all of the ones with him now. Still, he doesn't mind staying out here with them for a while. It's better than staying cooped up in the hotel all day, after all.]
samsa: (Ugh □ I can't eat that)
[Something curious has appeared on the Network this morning. There's no visual whatsoever, just blackness, but it is a video, strangely enough. The only thing that seems to be coming through is audio in the form of muffled shuffling followed by a barrage of rapid clicking every now and then. It'll stop for a while before starting up again, sometimes louder when the source gets closer to the Gear. The video continues rolling for what feels like an age, occasional noises unceasing.

Almost twenty minutes after the odd noises started up, a visual starts to emerge...sortof. A light can be seen that slowly starts to illuminate wherever the Gear in question happens to be, and after a moment it's clear that it's inside a bag. ...and whatever scuttled in and accidentally turned it on is still in the bag. Said bag is being lifted and jostled around, which causes the clicking to start up again, quickly joined by some very harsh hissing that doesn't sound happy at all.

The light grows brighter as the bag is opened, causing the Pokemon inside to recoil and hiss even louder, knocking against the Gear as it moves. All that can be said is that it's a bug of some sort, its hard shell a deep purple in the darkness of the bag. It recoils even further as a hand from above can be seen reaching in...and once it gets close enough, the Pokemon strikes hard and fast.

There's a sharp cry of surprise and pain and the bag is abruptly dropped, spilling out half its contents and the Gear along with it. From the ground, the video now shows Kaneki clasping his left hand with his right, holding it tight to his chest while his Zangoose just stands next to his ankle and stares at the bag, dumbfounded. A second later the hissing and clicking intensifies as a tiny Skorupi scuttles past, tail arched high over its back in anger and defiance. THIS IS HIS HOUSE. DO YOU WANNA GO.

...apparently, yes, because it takes about a second for everything to go straight to hell as soon as the Pokemon reveals itself, Rikki diving at the thing like a linebacker with a hiss rivaling its own. Her momentum is enough to knock the Gear away again with enough force to finally turn the feed back off, but not before giving a wild shot of the sky coupled with the hissing and shrieking of the Pokemon fighting one another.]

samsa: (Conversation □ let me explain)
[It's pretty cloudy and rainy today, and since he's had the day off from work today, how is Kaneki choosing to spend it? Entirely with his nose in a book, clearly. He likes rainy days like this, anyway. It's not terribly stormy out, but just enough that the rain can be heard hitting the roof of the hotel lobby as he sits with a book open on his knees and his head in one hand. Other than the rain the lobby is quiet, so he can sit and read while Rikki lounges draped like a scarf across the back of his shoulders.

After some time he puts the volume aside in exchange for his Gear.]

I've been reading some books about the Kanto region, lately. Most of them talk about the different cities there, but they all mention the native Pokémon at least once somewhere. I found one book that looks to be nothing but a reference guide for Pokémon living in Kanto.

But I found one Pokémon in particular that seems interesting. Sableye, the Darkness Pokémon. It does sound...ominous, from that description, but here's part of one of the Pokédex entries listed for it:

"Sableye digs the ground with sharpened claws to find rocks that it eats. Substances in the eaten rocks crystallize and rise up to the Pokémon’s body surface."

Does that mean that this Pokémon's body is embedded with gemstones? I read that they can only be found in Mt. Moon, and I'm not sure what sorts of stones you can find there...but it sounds like a Sableye could be living with almost any type of precious gem as a part of its body, depending on what it's eaten. It made me wonder if, for example, someone who was very rich could feed their Sableye nothing but emeralds or diamonds...would that alter its appearance over time?

If anyone here owns one, I would be interested in hearing more about what they are like, if you don't mind.

[After a few minutes he sends another short text.]

This is a bit...unrelated, but I also wanted to ask...does anyone have any suggestions for traveling if you don't have a Pokémon that can fly yet? I know there are certain Pokémon large enough to ride, but I'm not sure which would be the best for that sort of thing.
samsa: (Lying □ I ain't no truther)
[A video starts showing what appears to be the outside space of a café. It's early enough that it isn't too crowded, which is what Kaneki was looking for before actually making this video. He could have gone to the park instead, but where he was now was a lot closer to the Pokemon Center...which he felt he needed to be near for the moment. While it isn't unusual at all for people to have their Pokémon outside of their balls and with them most of the time, he hasn't quite gotten used to it. Namely, he feels it might be a little inappropriate to have such a large bug out where people might be eating.

That large bug in question is flitting near his shoulder; up, down, left, right, and back again. Every now and then it tries to land on Kaneki's shoulder before taking to the air again, a little to large to actually settle there comfortably.]

I caught this Pokémon a few days ago on one of the routes here. My Zangoose injured him pretty badly, so I took him to the Pokémon Center right away. Everything seemed fine after that.

[He looks over to the Yanma, his expression growing worried as the bug tilts his head this way and that, wings a blur as he hovers.]

But...something's wrong. One of the eyes, the right...it's duller than the other. I'm not...sure if he can see out of it. And I know for a fact that Rikki didn't strike him in the face...at- at least not where I could see. I don't know if this could have happened when she fought him, or if it was already there.

Is it...normal to find wild Pokémon like this? I don't know if I should take him back to the Pokémon Center or not, now that I'm noticing it. He doesn't seem to be in pain, but...I'm worried.
samsa: (Talk □ we're out of beans)
[Action]

[In comparison to the rest of this weekend so far, today has actually been the nicest, as far as the weather is concerned. It's still well below freezing but at least it isn't snowing, or hailing to make matters even more unpleasant. It's still not really a day you'd want to be out, but Kaneki had actually run out of books to read back at the hotel. It was either chance it and see if the weather turns bad again, or run out while the skies are clear and pick up something to tide him over.

Judging by his surroundings it looks like he eventually went for the latter. He's found a table near the back of the bookstore and is tending to a cup of coffee with one hand while the other rests on an open book before him, his hand moving down the page every now and then to help keep his place. While she usually makes herself at home on his shoulders, Kaneki's Zangoose is sitting on the floor lightly dozing near his feet. Not because she wants to be there, but because Kaneki has his hands full enough with a baby Smeargle sitting on the table across from his book. He's busily coloring a blank sheet of paper with the tip of his tail, only stopping when Kaneki looks up to see he's put his tail into his mouth.]

Ah ah- no, don't do that. You're getting paint all over your face...

[The Smeargle stays still as Kaneki picks up a napkin and wipes his mouth, cheekily sticking his tongue out and licking his trainer's fingers before he has a chance to return to his book. He isn't making a terrible mess at least, other than getting his fur smeared with paint every time his tail wanders back into his mouth...which it seems to do the second Kaneki looks back down.]

[Eventually the Smeargle tuckers himself out enough to want to take a nap in Kaneki's lap, and now that he's finished his coffee he can get a video started.]

I'm just curious, but some of you have been here for a long time, so...what is it that you do for a living, here? Other than being a trainer or a breeder, I mean. There are a lot of places you can find jobs, I'm sure, but I'm just wondering what sorts of careers people here have been pursuing, if any.

[He's thinking about looking for a job at some point if he is going to be here for a while, and while he knows he would really like to work somewhere like...well, the place he's at right now, he feels a bit weird just asking for a job outright.]
samsa: (Glance □ why always me)
[The low, steady growl rumbling in Kaneki’s right ear sets his heart hammering the moment he jerks awake, and it’s only when he registers that that something is furry and is plastered to the side of his head that he actually sits up. Of course, sitting up and being immediately presented with a woman claiming to be his mother doesn’t help to calm his growing sense of unease, a sense which is quickly starting to try to escalate into full on panic. He’s alive and unhurt at the very least, but where...

He stammers a hasty apology for what has to be some misunderstanding, but doesn’t get very far before he’s swiftly talked over and has no choice but to listen to what she has to say without any of it fully registering.

And once he’s outside, he’s convinced himself that this is…probably a dream. If we’re talking about Pokemon it has to be. Eventually a video starts after a bit of messing around on his part and a dark haired boy can be seen, his left eye covered by a white eye-patch. What's more, it looks more like he's dressed for work than anything casual, for some reason. The feed is a little trembly for a second before it adjusts and comes into focus.]

Hello. Uh...I was told that this place is called New Bark, but I’ve never heard of a town by that name.

[He’s promptly interrupted by more soft growling that has risen enough to be heard, causing him to angle his camera down toward his feet unintentionally as he looks down. By his ankle a very disgruntled Zangoose stands, though as frustrated as she looks she’s staying close by Kaneki’s side. He’s already being difficult, but why is she surprised even.]

I just want to make sure that I’m really where I’m...being told I am. I guess wherever it is, it isn’t Tokyo.

[Pokemon is stupidly popular in Tokyo right now, that much he does know, but the fact that his Pikachu is white, has three inch claws, and seems to hate him is a bit concerning. But, considering he was just literally in the process of being kidnapped to places unknown, wanting to know where he is is a valid concern.

He frowns slightly, reaching a hand up to nervously touch the side of his face. It doesn’t appear that he’s eager to say a whole lot, but the look on his face betrays how confused he is. At least running on the assumption that this is a dream is keeping him from getting too upset because, really, a cheerful tune wouldn’t be playing in the background otherwise.]

A-anyway, thank you in advance for- [A sharp tug on his pants leg causes him to look down and trail off before quickly finishing up.] -for the help.

[And then, the feed cuts. Anyone who happens to be in New Bark as well will see a boy trying in vain to free his pants from the claws of an indignant Zangoose who keeps chittering at him. Whatever she's saying, it's probably along the lines of 'YOU AREN'T DREAMING YOU DUMB']
