[In comparison to the rest of this weekend so far, today has actually been the nicest, as far as the weather is concerned. It's still well below freezing but at least it isn't snowing, or hailing to make matters even more unpleasant. It's still not really a day you'd want to be out, but Kaneki had actually run out of books to read back at the hotel. It was either chance it and see if the weather turns bad again, or run out while the skies are clear and pick up something to tide him over.
Judging by his surroundings it looks like he eventually went for the latter. He's found a table near the back of the bookstore and is tending to a cup of coffee with one hand while the other rests on an open book before him, his hand moving down the page every now and then to help keep his place. While she usually makes herself at home on his shoulders, Kaneki's Zangoose is sitting on the floor lightly dozing near his feet. Not because she wants to be there, but because Kaneki has his hands full enough with a baby Smeargle sitting on the table across from his book. He's busily coloring a blank sheet of paper with the tip of his tail, only stopping when Kaneki looks up to see he's put his tail into his mouth.]
Ah ah- no, don't do that. You're getting paint all over your face...
[The Smeargle stays still as Kaneki picks up a napkin and wipes his mouth, cheekily sticking his tongue out and licking his trainer's fingers before he has a chance to return to his book. He isn't making a terrible mess at least, other than getting his fur smeared with paint every time his tail wanders back into his mouth...which it seems to do the second Kaneki looks back down.]
[Eventually the Smeargle tuckers himself out enough to want to take a nap in Kaneki's lap, and now that he's finished his coffee he can get a video started.]
I'm just curious, but some of you have been here for a long time, so...what is it that you do for a living, here? Other than being a trainer or a breeder, I mean. There are a lot of places you can find jobs, I'm sure, but I'm just wondering what sorts of careers people here have been pursuing, if any.
[He's thinking about looking for a job at some point if he is going to be here for a while, and while he knows he would really like to work somewhere like...well, the place he's at right now, he feels a bit weird just asking for a job outright.]

A lot about this place seems to be connected to computers, too...so that sort of thing must be in pretty high demand, right?

I cook for a small restaurant. [SO MUCH PRIDE. Can Eye patch tell that this is the best job ever? Rin sounds happier than a 10 year old with a newly adopted animal friend.]
You could take up your old job here, if ya felt like it. [Goldenrod has a radio tower that plays music for a reason.]
...nope, spoke too soon.]
Ah...yeah, I guess I could. Though I actually used to work for a café...before all of that.
What restaurant do you work at?
A café? That's a pretty respectable job! ...You don't really look like the kinda guy who'd enjoy that kinda work. [Rock Star or not, a nerd is a nerd. It's not a bad thing, Plain Jane! It just means that Rin will now have to figure out what other hidden talents he has!]
It's called Honeyed Soul! It's mostly a sweets place, but it's got other great stuff too.

So for the time being he's pacing, and he's got a couple of books with him and he's holding one of them open in his hands, leafing through it idly as though trying to work out whether he wants to purchase it or not; the sudden speech gets his attention, though - referencing paint all up on someone's face, of all things - and when he looks up, he finds that he actually can't complain about either the situation or the person here.]
Ah, Kaneki-san! Meeting twice in as many days - this really is fortunate!
[The black coat is making a reappearance today, though he's got the usual white pants and military-style boots on underneath it; the scarf has been replaced with something incredibly long and very red. It's not...great, but it could be worse, basically.]
[action]
[Both Kaneki and the Smeargle look over when Ishimaru approaches, the Smeargle in particular looking a bit worse for wear with green paint smeared all over his face. He doesn't seem to mind this and grins at Ishimaru all the same, blinking when Kaneki puts his hand on his tail to keep him from wagging it.
Let's...not get paint EVERYWHERE, please.]
Are you here to get some books, too?
no subject
[...that...certainly is a Smeargle, isn't it.]
You and your, ah, friend are enjoying yourselves?
(no subject)

[Which is still something she shakes her head at sometimes. But the opportunity presented itself at the right time and now she's enjoying herself. If she's going to do something, she's going to be the best.]
I hardly make any serious money off of training, I've realized. Battling's ended up more of a hobby and recreational activity.
video
Maybe not, but that is interesting to hear. I've never been to a circus before, myself...but I have read some about them now and then.
As for battling...well, I've read about that, too, but I haven't actually tried it yet.
[His starter seems very capable of taking care of herself and has run wild Pokemon off before, but never exactly on his command or anything.]
video
It doesn't really hurt your Pokemon, and there's a great deal of pride when your team wins a match. It's an enjoyable pastime, even just for recreational.

You should come visit at least, says Zola.

Oh, well...I don't think I would be very cut out for the Circus. But I've never been to one...so I might see a show, sometime.
[He's really gotta get some money first, but call him curious.]

Yeah? I have a lot of respect for people who work in restaurants and things, now...it isn't as easy as it looks.

[She pauses for a moment, then dips her head slightly in embarrassment.]
A-Ah, I'm sorry...that doesn't really help much, does it? B-But um, there are several places you can obtain a job. Did you have a particular field in mind...?
video;
You don't have to apologize. That's interesting, I didn't know there was a breeding center here.
As for a particular field...I used to work in a café so I think I may start there, but there are so many in this town I'm not sure where I would start.

I've never tried to get like, an actual long-term JOB anywhere but I've heard a couple times that it's tough for twenty-somethings to break into industries just 'cuz the employers are like 'Yo, why aren't you on the road battling people for their lunch money?'
Doesn't mean it's impossible or that people don't do it, though.
I mean, I've never had anything much more than a temporary job either...but I wasn't expected to just quit after a week.
